Ok, Ok, I know I'm a little late for Favorite Ingredients Friday, but better late than never, right? Really, I think it's a bigger crime to share a recipe for something so delish and so anti-healthy right after a Motivational Monday... :-P
This particular recipe has been made in my parent's household, and my household, since forever. It was one of the first things I remember cooking and my mother, a 4-H cooking leader (just like me!) has the kids make this every year at their last meeting. Making it on our own was something of a right of passage for the kids of my mother's household. And in my household, we make it once a year... On that fateful day of romance, Valentine's Day. It's so decedent and delish, perfect for Valentine's treats.
Chocolate Fondue
6 1 oz. squares Unsweetened Chocolate
1 1/2 C. Sugar
1 C. Light Cream
1/2 C. Butter
1/8 tsp. Salt
Prepare ahead: Cut or slice dippers to a bite size for dipping and eating.
In saucepan, melt chocolate over low heat. Add sugar, cream, butter, and salt. Cook, stirring constantly, about 5 minutes or until thickened. Pour into fondue pot; place over fondue burner. Spear dipper with fondue fork; dip into sauce. If the sauce cools too much and becomes too thick, reheat over low heat.
Serves 6 to 8.
Suggested dippers: Angel food cake, pound cake, apples, maraschino cherries, marshmallows, bananas, strawberries, cookies, pretzels, gummy bears...
