Nasty Water Leads to Nasty Showers

Posted by The Stepford Wife at Friday, February 15, 2008
My pet peeve is a dirty bathroom. I hate it. Unfortunately, my shower seems to collect nastiness. My shampoo trick works a miracle on that ring-around-the-tub soap scum, and it has the added plus of being a chemical-free cleaning option. Really good for those of us who're trying to get pregnant.

But for the longest time, my showerhead was the bane of my existence. I have a rain shower, and the showerhead used to get so gunked up with our nasty city water. After awhile, it'd get this weird, orangy-brown rust colored mold around the little spouts where the water pours out. Scrubbing it out was a nightmare, and it was messy. I couldn't take the showerhead down, because it would cause Mr Stepford serious stress, so I thought it was just destined to be icky forever.

Then I found the perfect cure. If I filled a freezer bag with vinegar, then I rubberbanded it super tight around the showerhead. If I left it overnight, all the mold was gone. This technique is now one of my once-a-month chores for my bathroom cleaning routine.

Oh, and by the way... We got a free daily shower cleaner, the kind where you hang it on the wall and push a button and it "cleans" the shower. Those are such a scam. They do not work, at all. Save your money... It actually made my shower dirty. Blech.
